naani

What naani means

naani is written نانی in the Urdu script and means grandmother (maternal) in English. It is taught in the Family lessons under Grandparents & Elders.

You will also see it romanized as nani. Urdu has no single standard romanization; the script spelling is the same.

Forms of naani

naani is feminine and ends in -i: the plural adds -yaan (naaniyaan) and the oblique plural -yon (naaniyon). The singular does not change before a postposition.
